Who managed Liverpool during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend?
Answer
Andoni Iraola
Andoni Iraola managed Liverpool during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Liverpool opened the season away to Newcastle United on Sunday 23 August 2026, in a match that finished 2–2. Iraola was listed as Liverpool’s manager after joining the club on 4 June 2026.
His appointment followed Arne Slot’s departure after the 2025–26 season. Iraola had previously been associated with Bournemouth, but the 2026–27 Premier League table listed him in charge at Liverpool.
The Newcastle match was one of the weekend’s two draws. Liverpool and Newcastle shared four goals, while the other nine opening-round fixtures produced a winner, including Arsenal’s 3–0 victory and Brighton’s 4–0 win.
