Who is the receptionist at Dunder Mifflin Scranton?

The story behind the answer

The receptionist at Dunder Mifflin Scranton is Pam Beesly.

Pam begins The Office as the receptionist at the Scranton branch of the paper company Dunder Mifflin. Played by Jenna Fischer, she sits at the front desk, screens calls, greets visitors and becomes the office’s informal information hub. Her familiarity with everyone’s habits often lets her understand workplace tensions before the managers do.

Pam’s career changes substantially over the series. She leaves reception to pursue art classes, briefly works in sales, joins the Michael Scott Paper Company, and eventually becomes Dunder Mifflin’s office administrator. Her personal story is closely tied to Jim Halpert: they become friends, begin dating, marry and have children.

The wording refers to Pam’s defining early role, even though she does not remain a receptionist for the entire show. Erin Hannon later works at the front desk, which can cause confusion, but Pam is the canonical answer for the question’s familiar description of the Scranton receptionist.
