Meredith is the branch’s outspoken, hard-partying accountant and one of the show’s most unpredictable employees. The series presents her as an alcoholic, divorced single mother whose blunt comments and chaotic behavior frequently unsettle her co-workers. Despite the character’s reckless image, Meredith is also a capable employee who understands the office’s finances and workplace politics.

Flannery was born in Philadelphia in 1964 and studied at Shenandoah Conservatory before transferring to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She performed with Chicago’s Annoyance Theatre and The Second City’s National Touring Company before gaining her screen breakthrough on The Office.

She appeared as Meredith for 187 episodes from 2005 to 2013. Flannery and the ensemble received major recognition through The Office’s Screen Actors Guild wins in 2007 and 2008. After the sitcom, she continued acting in television, film, voice work, and live comedy, including roles on Steven Universe and Dancing with the Stars.
