Who is the main villain of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Rita Repulsa is the series’ first main villain and principal nemesis in its opening season. She is an alien sorceress determined to conquer Earth and defeat Zordon’s newly assembled Rangers.

Rita begins the show imprisoned in a space dumpster after being sealed away for 10,000 years. Two astronauts accidentally release her in “Day of the Dumpster,” the 1993 premiere. From her lunar palace, she sends monsters and Putty Patrollers against the teenagers of Angel Grove and uses her magic wand to enlarge defeated monsters.

Rita’s chief henchmen include Goldar, Finster, Squatt, and Baboo. Goldar is her powerful warrior and most prominent field lieutenant, but he is not the main villain. Zordon is the Rangers’ mentor, not an antagonist, while Lord Zedd becomes the dominant threat when he arrives in season two. Rita and Zedd later become partners and spouses, making the villain hierarchy more complicated than the first season’s premise.

The character was adapted from Witch Bandora in the Japanese series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, whose footage supplied much of Rita’s original portrayal.
