Who is the CFO of Dunder Mifflin in the early seasons?
Answer
David Wallace
Answer
David Wallace
David Wallace is the CFO of Dunder Mifflin in the early seasons of The Office. Portrayed by Andy Buckley, Wallace is introduced in season two as the company’s new chief financial officer at its New York headquarters.
He first appears in “Valentine’s Day,” where he meets branch managers and discusses Dunder Mifflin’s financial performance. The previous CFO had resigned after allegations of sexual harassment, creating the vacancy Wallace fills. Unlike Michael Scott, Wallace is a corporate executive rather than a Scranton branch manager.
Wallace becomes an important contrast to Michael. He generally recognizes Michael’s strengths while remaining patient with his eccentric behavior, and he appreciates employees such as Jim Halpert and Toby Flenderson. Wallace later fires Michael’s replacement, Charles Miner, after Michael resigns and starts the Michael Scott Paper Company.
The title changes later in the series. Sabre’s acquisition of Dunder Mifflin leads to Wallace’s dismissal, but he eventually buys the company and becomes its CEO. That later promotion is why some viewers may remember him primarily as the company’s chief executive rather than its early CFO.
