Who is the blind earthbender who joins Team Avatar?

The blind earthbender who joins Team Avatar is Toph Beifong. Born into a wealthy Earth Kingdom family, Toph is treated by her parents as fragile because of her blindness, but she secretly develops extraordinary earthbending skills.

Toph learns from the fictional badgermoles, creatures regarded as the original earthbenders. By sensing vibrations through the ground, she can detect people, movement, and structures around her. She first appears publicly as the champion of Earth Rumble under the name “Blind Bandit,” then leaves home to become Aang’s earthbending teacher.

Toph’s blindness is not merely a character detail: it shapes her fighting style and her limitations. Loose sand, airborne environments, and damaged feet can interfere with her seismic sense. She later discovers metalbending, becoming the first known metalbender and eventually founding a metalbending academy. Ty Lee, Mai, and Suki are important characters, but none is the blind earthbender who joins the group.
