Who is directing the fantasy sequel Practical Magic 2?

Susanne Bier is directing Practical Magic 2.

Bier is a Danish filmmaker whose work includes the films After the Wedding, In a Better World, and Bird Box. She also directed the television miniseries The Undoing, starring Nicole Kidman, making Practical Magic 2 another collaboration between Bier and Kidman.

The original Practical Magic was directed by Griffin Dunne. Because Dunne directed the first film, he is an easy name to confuse with Bier when comparing the two productions. Dunne is associated with the sequel as an executive producer rather than its director.

Practical Magic 2 is based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic and brings back Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as Sally and Gillian Owens. Bier’s appointment was announced in 2025, ahead of the film’s United Kingdom production.
