Who holds the women’s shot put world record at 22.63 metres?
Answer
Natalya Lisovskaya
Answer
Natalya Lisovskaya
Natalya Lisovskaya holds the women’s shot put world record at 22.63 metres.
Lisovskaya set the record on 7 June 1987 in Moscow while representing the Soviet Union. The throw remains the women’s outdoor world best. She used the rotational technique, which generates speed by turning across the circle before driving the shot into the sector.
Lisovskaya won Olympic gold at the 1988 Seoul Games and silver at Los Angeles in 1984. She also won the 1987 World Championships title, making her the leading female shot-putter of that period.
The record is often confused with the indoor best, which is a separate category because indoor throwing facilities and competition conditions differ. Shot put is measured from the inside edge of the circle to the nearest mark made by the landing shot.
