Who holds the record for the highest individual score in Test cricket?
Answer
Brian Lara
Answer
Brian Lara
Brian Lara holds the record for the highest individual score in Test cricket, making 400 not out for the West Indies against England in 2004.
Lara reached the landmark at the Antigua Recreation Ground during the fourth Test of the 2003–04 series. His innings lasted 582 deliveries and included 43 fours and 4 sixes. He became the first batter to score 400 in a Test innings, and he remained unbeaten when the West Indies declared.
The achievement restored a record Lara had previously held. In 1994, he scored 375 against England, then the highest Test innings. Matthew Hayden surpassed that mark with 380 in 2003, but Lara reclaimed the record the following year with his unbeaten 400.
The asterisk in “400*” means Lara was not out. This is a Test-innings record, distinct from the highest first-class score, which Lara also holds with 501 not out for Warwickshire in 1994.
