Who holds the men's decathlon world record of 9,126 points?

The story behind the answer

Kevin Mayer holds the men's decathlon world record with 9,126 points.

The French athlete set the mark at the 2018 Décastar meeting in Talence, France. He surpassed the previous record of 9,045 points, set by American Ashton Eaton in 2015.

A decathlon contains ten events contested across two days: 100 metres, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 metres, 110-metre hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 metres. Athletes receive points from tables that reward performance in each discipline.

Mayer's record is not the same as the Olympic record. Damian Warner set the Olympic decathlon record of 9,018 points at Tokyo in 2021, while Eaton's 9,045 remained the Olympic record when he won at Rio in 2016.
