Who fights Heimdall to the death at Ragnarok?
Answer
Loki
Answer
Loki
Loki fights Heimdall to the death at Ragnarök.
Heimdall is the vigilant guardian of the gods’ realm and watches over Bifröst, the bridge linking Asgard and Midgard. He possesses extraordinary sight and hearing and carries Gjallarhorn, whose blast announces the arrival of Ragnarök and summons the gods to battle.
Loki, meanwhile, is a trickster and shape-shifter whose actions help set the catastrophe in motion. He is the father of several enemies of the gods, including Fenrir and Jörmungandr, and eventually breaks free from his punishment. During the final conflict, he and Heimdall meet as enemies and kill one another.
This is easy to confuse with other Ragnarök pairings. Odin fights Fenrir, Thor fights Jörmungandr, Freyr fights Surtr, and Týr fights the hound Garm. The Heimdall–Loki duel is especially notable because their hostility is already foreshadowed in earlier myths, including disputes over treasures and insults.
