Who directed the two-part documentary about making Metallica and its following tour?

The story behind the answer

Adam Dubin directed the two-part documentary about making Metallica and its following tour.

A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica was released on November 17, 1992, as a double VHS package. It documents the creation of The Black Album, the work of producer Bob Rock, the making of several music videos, and the band’s touring activity after release.

Juliana Roberts produced the documentary, while Dubin served as director. The two parts have different emphases: the first focuses on recording the album, and the second follows the band through tour performances and major events connected with the album cycle.

The documentary is often confused with other Metallica video projects. Wayne Isham directed the “Enter Sandman” music video, while later Metallica documentaries had different directors. A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica remains the principal behind-the-scenes film associated with the Black Album’s creation and early touring.
