The Wachowskis directed The Matrix.

The 1999 science-fiction film was written and directed by the filmmaking duo, who were credited at the time as the Wachowski Brothers. It was their second feature after the crime thriller Bound (1996), and its success established them as major directors.

The film follows hacker Thomas Anderson, or Neo, as he discovers that humanity is trapped inside a machine-created simulated reality. Its distinctive blend of cyberpunk ideas, martial-arts choreography, anime influence and “bullet time” visual effects helped redefine big-budget action cinema.

A common mix-up is confusing the directors with the film’s producer, Joel Silver, or with its stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving. The Wachowskis also directed the two 2003 sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.
