Who directed the first two episodes of Lanterns?

The story behind the answer

James Hawes directed the first two episodes of Lanterns.

Hawes was hired in October 2024 to direct the opening pair of episodes and serve as an executive producer. His involvement connected the series to Slow Horses, whose first season he directed. That earlier work was also one of the stylistic comparisons used when describing Lanterns’ grounded investigative tone.

The first episode, titled “Pilot,” was written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The second episode was written by Vanessa Baden Kelly and Chris Mundy. Hawes’ early episodes establish the partnership between veteran Lantern Hal Jordan and new recruit John Stewart.

Other directors also worked on the season. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov were confirmed as additional directors. Directing the first two episodes does not mean Hawes directed the entire season; the eight-episode production uses multiple directors.
