Adam Dubin directed A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica, the documentary about making Metallica's 1991 album and the following tour.
The two-part documentary was released in 1992 as a double VHS package. Its first part follows Metallica and producer Bob Rock during the album's creation, including the recording process, the making of music videos, and a listening party for invited fans. It captures the tensions that developed between the band and Rock during the demanding sessions.
The second part follows the band during the Wherever We May Roam Tour and the 1992 Guns N' Roses/Metallica Stadium Tour. It includes performances and backstage footage, extending the story beyond the studio and into the album's enormous touring campaign.
Juliana Roberts was a producer of the documentary, not its director. Sean Fullan edited it, while Vincent E. Toto was among the credited cinematographers. Those production roles are distinct from Dubin's directing credit, making the director's name the specific answer.
