Who directed the 2019 animated Christmas film Klaus?

The story behind the answer

Sergio Pablos directed the 2019 animated Christmas film Klaus.

Klaus presents an original origin story for Santa Claus through Jesper, a spoiled postal student sent to the remote island of Smeerensburg. Jesper’s attempt to encourage letter writing leads him to the reclusive toymaker Klaus and gradually transforms the divided community.

Pablos created the story and directed the film, which was produced by The SPA Studios and released through Netflix. The movie was notable for using digitally assisted 2D animation rather than relying entirely on a conventional computer-generated 3D style.

Klaus received the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film and earned an Academy Award nomination in the same category. It is sometimes grouped with traditional Santa films, but its narrative is deliberately a fictional legend rather than an adaptation of a pre-existing Christmas book or television special.
