Who directed the 2014 film Noah, a dramatic retelling of the Ark story?

Darren Aronofsky directed Noah, the 2014 film dramatizing the biblical Ark story. Aronofsky co-wrote the screenplay with Ari Handel, and Russell Crowe played Noah.

The film is not a straightforward scene-by-scene adaptation of Genesis. It expands the story with original characters, visual effects, and interpretations drawn from biblical, midrashic, and other cultural material. Paramount Pictures released the film in 2014.

Its principal cast also includes Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Anthony Hopkins. Because several films and television productions use the title Noah or depict the Flood, the year and director are useful identifiers for this particular feature film.
