Noah planted a vineyard after leaving the Ark, according to Genesis.
Genesis 9:20 says Noah began farming and planted a vineyard after the Flood. He drank wine, became drunk, and lay uncovered in his tent. The episode introduces a family incident involving his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, followed by Noah’s statements about their descendants.
This vineyard scene is separate from the earlier Ark construction and Flood chronology. Noah’s first recorded post-Flood activity is agricultural, showing a return to settled life rather than continued travel on the water.
The passage is often remembered only for the drunkenness, but the text explicitly identifies Noah as the planter. Genesis does not say that Shem, Ham, or Japheth established the vineyard. Later traditions interpret Ham’s actions and Noah’s pronouncements in various ways.
