Who directed the 2014 biblical epic film Noah about the Flood and Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

Darren Aronofsky directed the 2014 biblical epic film Noah about the Flood and Noah’s Ark.

Aronofsky co-wrote the screenplay with Ari Handel and shaped the film as a dark, visually elaborate interpretation of the Genesis narrative. The story retains central elements such as Noah, the Ark, the Flood, and the preservation of animal life, but expands the biblical material with invented dialogue and fantasy elements.

The production starred Russell Crowe as Noah and was released by Paramount Pictures in 2014. Its large-scale visual effects and production design presented the Ark and the ancient world in a cinematic style rather than as a literal reconstruction of the biblical text.

Aronofsky had previously directed films including Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, and Black Swan. Noah became his first feature centered on a major biblical figure.
