Who directed the 1973 heist film The Sting?
Answer
George Roy Hill
Answer
George Roy Hill
George Roy Hill directed the 1973 heist film The Sting.
The film reunited Hill with actors Paul Newman and Robert Redford, who had previously worked together on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Their partnership helped make The Sting one of the most successful films of the 1970s. The story follows Depression-era con artists who construct an elaborate scheme against a ruthless crime boss.
Hill was an American director whose other notable films included The World According to Garp and Slap Shot. The Sting was written by David S. Ward and used a chapter-based structure inspired by classic confidence tricks. Its period setting, title cards and ragtime score created a deliberately nostalgic style. A common mix-up is attributing the film to Redford or Newman because both stars were strongly associated with it, but Hill was the director.
