Who directed Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol?

The story behind the answer

Brad Bird directed Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Released in 2011, Ghost Protocol was Bird’s first live-action feature as a director. He was already widely recognized for animated films such as The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille. The Mission: Impossible assignment allowed him to apply his visual storytelling and action instincts to a large-scale spy thriller.

The film follows Ethan Hunt and his team after the IMF is disavowed during a global crisis. Its set pieces include Ethan’s climb outside Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which became one of the series’ most recognizable sequences.

Ghost Protocol is sometimes attributed to J.J. Abrams because Abrams produced it and had directed the preceding film, Mission: Impossible III. Christopher McQuarrie later became the principal director of the franchise, beginning with Rogue Nation.
