Tom Cruise played Ethan Hunt in all seven Mission: Impossible films released by 2023.
Cruise first portrayed Hunt in the 1996 film Mission: Impossible and continued in Mission: Impossible 2, Mission: Impossible III, Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning Part One. Ethan is an IMF field agent known for high-risk operations and elaborate disguises.
Cruise also served as a producer on the films, helping shape the series’ emphasis on practical stunts and large-scale action. The franchise became closely associated with his performance and willingness to perform demanding physical sequences.
The seven-film total refers to movies released through Dead Reckoning Part One in 2023. Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames play important recurring characters, but none portrays Ethan Hunt.
