Who directed Metallica’s 1992 music video for “Nothing Else Matters”?
Answer
Adam Dubin
Answer
Adam Dubin
Adam Dubin directed Metallica’s 1992 music video for “Nothing Else Matters.”
The video was filmed in spring 1991 in North Hollywood during the recording of Metallica’s self-titled album. It premiered on MTV on February 25, 1992, ahead of the song’s single release on April 20 of that year. Sean Fullan edited the video.
Rather than presenting a conventional narrative, the clip uses footage connected with the recording process and the documentary A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica. It gives viewers glimpses of the band in the studio, including James Hetfield playing a Gibson EDS-1275 during the second chorus.
The video is sometimes confused with Metallica’s other Black Album clips, several of which were directed by Wayne Isham or Matt Mahurin. Dubin’s credit belongs specifically to “Nothing Else Matters.” In August 2021, the video became Metallica’s first to pass one billion views on YouTube.
