David Mamet directed Heist (2001), the crime film he also wrote and starring Gene Hackman.
Hackman plays Joe Moore, an experienced thief whose retirement plans collapse after a robbery is compromised. The resulting plot involves double-crosses, competing criminal interests, and a final major theft.
Mamet is known for tightly constructed dialogue and stories centered on deception, loyalty, and professional criminals. He had previously written screenplays such as The Untouchables and Glengarry Glen Ross.
Heist was released in 2001 with a cast that also included Danny DeVito, Delroy Lindo, and Sam Rockwell. It is separate from the 2015 film of the same title starring Robert De Niro and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
