Who directed Furious 7, the 2015 Fast & Furious film?

The story behind the answer

James Wan directed Furious 7, released in 2015.

Furious 7 was the first Fast & Furious film directed by James Wan, who was already known for horror and thriller films. The story follows Dom Toretto and his team as they face Deckard Shaw, who seeks revenge for the defeat of his brother Owen Shaw. The film combines international action locations with the series’ continuing emphasis on family.

Furious 7 also became a major milestone because it was Paul Walker’s final completed film role. Walker died in a car accident during production in 2013. His brothers and visual effects doubles helped complete remaining scenes, and the film ended with a widely recognized farewell sequence for Brian O’Conner.

Justin Lin directed several earlier installments, while F. Gary Gray directed The Fate of the Furious. James Wan’s involvement therefore marks a change in the series’ directorial lineup rather than a continuation of Lin’s consecutive run.
