Who directed Fast Five in the Fast & Furious franchise?

The story behind the answer

Justin Lin directed Fast Five in the Fast & Furious franchise. The 2011 film was his third Fast & Furious project, following The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious.

Fast Five shifted the series toward large-scale heist action while retaining its focus on cars, loyalty, and teamwork. Its story brings together characters from several earlier films for a planned vault robbery in Rio de Janeiro. The change in style helped establish the ensemble structure used by later installments.

Lin also directed Fast & Furious 6 and briefly returned for F9: The Fast Saga. His work is often associated with the franchise’s transition from street-racing films to global action spectacles. He should not be confused with James Wan, who directed Furious 7, or F. Gary Gray, who directed The Fate of the Furious.
