Beyoncé directed her 2018 Coachella performance film Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.
The documentary, released by Netflix in 2019, records the preparation and performances behind her historic Coachella appearance. It combines concert footage with rehearsal scenes, interviews, and reflections on the production’s cultural meaning.
Beyoncé became the first Black woman to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Her set featured a large marching-band-inspired ensemble, Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and themes connected to historically Black colleges and universities.
The film’s full title identifies Beyoncé as its director. It is different from the event itself, which was directed for live festival presentation by other production personnel. Homecoming later received four Grammy nominations and won Best Music Film.
