Who directed Beyoncé’s 2006 film Dreamgirls?

The story behind the answer

Bill Condon directed Beyoncé’s 2006 film Dreamgirls.

Dreamgirls is a musical drama adapted from the stage musical of the same name. Beyoncé played Deena Jones, a singer whose group rises from local performances to major commercial success. The story was inspired in part by the history of Motown acts, although it is not a direct biography.

The cast also included Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy, and Anika Noni Rose. Jennifer Hudson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Effie White.

Bill Condon later directed other major musical and music-related films, including the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast. Dreamgirls helped establish Beyoncé as a significant film performer as well as a recording artist.
