Who designed the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong?

The story behind the answer

Who designed the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong? I. M. Pei designed it.

The Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei created the tower with L. C. Pei through the firm I. M. Pei and Partners. Its distinctive structure uses triangular frameworks and glass curtain walls, giving the skyscraper a crystalline, geometric appearance.

Construction began in 1985, and the tower was topped out in 1989 before being occupied in 1990. At 315 meters, with two masts extending its height to roughly 367 meters, it quickly became one of Hong Kong’s defining landmarks.

The design was inspired partly by the growth pattern of bamboo, a traditional symbol of vitality and prosperity. A common mix-up is confusing the architect with structural engineer Leslie E. Robertson, who helped engineer the building but did not design its architectural form. The tower also attracted feng shui criticism because of its sharp edges and prominent X-shaped structure.
