What is the height of the Chrysler Building in meters?

The story behind the answer

The Chrysler Building is 319 meters tall. Its commonly cited architectural height is approximately 318.9 meters, which is rounded to 319 meters in standard trivia and reference listings.

Completed in 1930 in Midtown Manhattan, the Art Deco skyscraper was commissioned by automobile executive Walter Chrysler and designed by architect William Van Alen. Its stainless-steel spire, known as the Chrysler Building’s crown, helped give it a dramatic height advantage over competing New York towers.

The building briefly held the title of world’s tallest building after completion, surpassing 40 Wall Street. It lost that distinction the following year when the Empire State Building reached 381 meters. A common mix-up is to quote the Chrysler Building’s roof height, about 282 meters, rather than its full height including the spire.
