Who designed One World Trade Center in New York City?
Answer
David Childs
Answer
David Childs
David Childs designed One World Trade Center in New York City.
Childs was the principal architect for the tower, working through Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The completed design features a square base that transitions into eight elongated isosceles triangles before forming a square observation section near the top.
The building rose on the site of the former World Trade Center after the September 11 attacks. Daniel Libeskind created the broader master plan for the site, which is why his name is sometimes incorrectly given as the tower’s architect.
One World Trade Center opened in 2014 and became the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere by architectural height. Its 1,776-foot height deliberately references the year of the United States Declaration of Independence.
