John Galliano designed Gwen Stefani’s pink-and-white wedding dress for her 2002 marriage to Gavin Rossdale.
The dramatic gown began as white and faded into a vivid pink hem. It combined a fitted corset-style bodice with a voluminous skirt, creating a deliberately theatrical alternative to an all-white bridal dress. Stefani wore the design with a long white veil.
Stefani married British musician Gavin Rossdale on 14 September 2002 in London. Galliano, then associated with Dior, was known for romantic historic references and highly theatrical couture, qualities clearly visible in the gown’s exaggerated proportions and color treatment.
The dress became an often-cited example of a celebrity bride using color to personalize a wedding look. It is sometimes described simply as a Dior dress, but the designer credited with creating it was John Galliano. Stefani later donated the gown to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
