Who defeated Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final?
Answer
Carlos Alcaraz
Answer
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final.
Alcaraz won the five-set championship match 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4. The victory gave him his first Wimbledon title and his second major championship, while ending Djokovic’s run of four consecutive Wimbledon titles. Djokovic had also won seven Wimbledon singles crowns overall.
The final was a major changing-of-the-guard moment. Alcaraz, then 20, became the first men’s singles champion outside the Big Four of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Andy Murray since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002. The match lasted 4 hours and 42 minutes, making it the third-longest Wimbledon men’s singles final at the time.
The result is distinct from the 2023 French Open semifinal, where Djokovic defeated Alcaraz. It was also Djokovic’s first Centre Court loss since the 2013 Wimbledon final against Murray, ending a decade-long streak at the venue.
