Who created Avatar: The Last Airbender with Bryan Konietzko?

The story behind the answer

Michael Dante DiMartino created Avatar: The Last Airbender with Bryan Konietzko.

DiMartino and Konietzko served as the series’ co-creators and showrunners, shaping its world, characters and long-running story about the Avatar’s responsibility to restore balance. The animated series premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and follows Aang, the last surviving Air Nomad, as he learns the elements and opposes the Fire Nation.

The two creators also guided the show’s visual and cultural direction. Its fictional world combines elemental magic with influences from East Asian art, history, philosophy and martial arts. Airbending, waterbending, earthbending and firebending were each designed around distinct movement traditions.

Several names in the answer choices are important production figures but not co-creators. Joaquim Dos Santos directed episodes, Giancarlo Volpe directed and worked as a supervising director, and Aaron Ehasz was a major writer and executive producer. Their contributions were substantial, but the creator credit belongs to DiMartino and Konietzko.
