Who composed the score for Mission: Impossible – Fallout?

The story behind the answer

Lorne Balfe composed the score for Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Balfe’s music combines the franchise’s familiar themes with forceful orchestral writing suited to the film’s pursuit sequences, aerial action, and emotional turning points. The soundtrack was released alongside the 2018 film and became one of the series’ most recognizable modern scores.

The original Mission: Impossible theme was written by Lalo Schifrin for the television series. Later films used different composers: Danny Elfman scored the first film, Hans Zimmer scored Mission: Impossible 2, and Michael Giacchino scored Mission: Impossible III and Ghost Protocol.

This distinction matters because the recurring theme and the film’s complete score are not the same thing. Balfe composed Fallout’s score while incorporating musical ideas associated with the wider franchise.
