Who composed the score for James Cameron’s Titanic?

The story behind the answer

James Horner composed the score for James Cameron’s Titanic.

Horner created the film’s orchestral score, including the recurring themes associated with Jack, Rose, and the doomed ocean liner. He also wrote the music for “My Heart Will Go On,” with lyrics by Will Jennings. Celine Dion’s recording became the film’s signature song and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Titanic was not Horner’s first collaboration with Cameron. He had previously composed the music for Aliens, released in 1986. Horner’s work on both films helped give Cameron’s large-scale productions an emotional musical identity.

James Horner should not be confused with Hans Zimmer, John Williams, or Alan Silvestri, all major film composers who scored other famous blockbusters. Horner died in a plane crash in 2015, but his Titanic score remains one of the best-known film soundtracks of the late twentieth century.
