Who composed the musical score for The Lion King?
Answer
Hans Zimmer
Answer
Hans Zimmer
Who composed the musical score for The Lion King? Hans Zimmer composed the musical score for the 1994 film.
Zimmer’s instrumental music gives the film much of its emotional and dramatic shape, from the sweeping opening to the tension surrounding Mufasa’s death and Simba’s return. He was brought onto the project partly because of his earlier work on films set in Africa, including A World Apart and The Power of One.
Zimmer’s score is distinct from the film’s songs. Elton John composed the music for the songs, while Tim Rice wrote their lyrics. Zimmer handled the underscore, incorporating orchestral writing, African-inspired musical elements, and vocal contributions arranged with South African musician Lebo M.
The score earned Zimmer the Academy Award for Best Original Score. The soundtrack’s success also helped popularize the film’s music far beyond the movie itself, though the complete instrumental score was not released in full until a later commemorative edition.
