Who composed the musical score for The Fast and the Furious (2001)?

The story behind the answer

Brian Transeau composed the musical score for The Fast and the Furious (2001).

Transeau is better known by the initials BT, and he created the film’s original score for director Rob Cohen. The music supports the movie’s street-racing atmosphere with electronic textures and action-focused cues that complement the customized-car culture on screen.

The film also featured a separate soundtrack album containing songs by artists including Limp Bizkit, Ja Rule and Black Child. That distinction matters because the soundtrack’s popular songs are not the same thing as the film’s original score.

Later Fast & Furious films became strongly associated with composer Brian Tyler, who scored several major entries. That later connection can lead to the mistaken answer Brian Tyler, but the first film’s score was composed by Brian Transeau.
