Who composed the music for Christopher Nolan’s Following?
Answer
David Julyan
Answer
David Julyan
David Julyan composed the music for Christopher Nolan’s Following.
Following was Nolan’s first feature film, made on a very small budget before he became associated with large-scale productions. Julyan’s score helped establish the director’s preference for atmospheric, psychologically tense sound design and music.
Julyan later collaborated with Nolan on Memento, Insomnia, and The Prestige. Their early partnership is sometimes confused with Nolan’s later, much more famous collaboration with Hans Zimmer, which began with Batman Begins in 2005.
Following was shot mainly in black and white and premiered in 1998. Its story follows a writer who begins following strangers and becomes entangled with a burglar, creating the fragmented narrative style that would become a signature of Nolan’s cinema. The film’s music is comparatively restrained, supporting its noir mood rather than dominating the action.
