Who composed the James Bond theme used in Dr. No?
Answer
Monty Norman
Answer
Monty Norman
Monty Norman composed the James Bond theme used in Dr. No.
The instrumental theme was written for the first Bond film and became one of the most recognizable pieces of film music. Its sharp guitar riff, brass accents and rhythmic drive helped establish the sound associated with 007 from the opening of the series.
John Barry arranged and orchestrated the recorded version, which is why he is sometimes incorrectly named as the sole composer. Barry later became one of the franchise’s most important composers, scoring many Bond films and contributing substantially to the series’ musical identity.
The theme is distinct from the title songs performed by singers such as Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney and Adele. It is also separate from “The James Bond Theme” variations used in later films, even though the central musical idea remained closely associated with Bond.
