Who coached Djokovic during his 2011 dominant season?
Answer
Marian Vajda
Answer
Marian Vajda
Marian Vajda coached Djokovic during his dominant 2011 season. The Slovak coach had joined Djokovic’s team in 2006 and remained his principal coach throughout the breakthrough years.
In 2011, Djokovic won 10 titles, including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open. He also opened the season with a remarkable 43-match winning streak, rising to world No. 1 for the first time. Vajda was the coach most closely associated with that transformation.
A common mix-up is Boris Becker, who became Djokovic’s head coach only in late 2013. Becker and Vajda then worked together for a period, with Vajda continuing as an important member of the team. Andre Agassi joined much later as a part-time adviser and coach.
Vajda’s partnership with Djokovic was unusually long-lived: apart from a brief split, he coached the Serbian from 2006 until 2022. He was also named Serbia’s best coach in both 2010 and 2011.
