Who co-wrote 'Little Lies' with Christine McVie?

The story behind the answer

Eddy Quintela co-wrote “Little Lies” with Christine McVie.

The song was released by Fleetwood Mac in 1987 as the third single from Tango in the Night. McVie wrote and sang the lead vocal, while Quintela, her then-husband, received a songwriting credit. Quintela’s contribution is sometimes overlooked because he was not a Fleetwood Mac member and was not a prominent performer on the recording.

McVie later explained that Quintela’s role in creating the song was relatively small. She developed the song’s counter-vocal idea over an existing musical passage and wrote much of the finished material herself. That background helps explain why quizzes sometimes mistakenly credit the whole band or producers Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut.

The recording features backing vocals from Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, with Buckingham also contributing guitars, keyboards and production assistance. Released on August 14, 1987, “Little Lies” became Fleetwood Mac’s first single to reach the top five in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It remains one of McVie’s signature compositions.
