Archie Gray became Tottenham’s youngest captain in a competitive match during the 2026–27 opening weekend.
Gray captained Tottenham against Brentford on 22 August 2026, breaking Steve Perryman’s club record. He was 20 years and 260 days old when he led the team in the competitive fixture.
The record came in a difficult match for Spurs, who lost 3–0 away from home. Brentford scored through Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode, while Igor Thiago missed a penalty.
Gray’s achievement was separate from the several player debuts recorded in the match. Sandro Tonali, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke all made debuts, but none replaced Gray as Tottenham’s youngest competitive captain.
