Which year did the Xbox 360 first launch worldwide?

The story behind the answer

The Xbox 360 first launched worldwide in 2005.

Microsoft began the rollout in North America on November 22, 2005. European markets followed on December 2, and Japan received the console on December 10. This made Xbox 360 the first major home console to begin its generation before both Sony and Nintendo’s competing systems arrived.

The 360 introduced a redesigned Xbox identity, a wireless controller as standard equipment, and Xbox Live features that supported digital downloads, achievements, and online multiplayer. Its high-definition presentation also helped make HD televisions more relevant to mainstream console players.

The year can be confused with 2006 because some important launch-period software and accessories appeared later. It can also be confused with the original Xbox’s 2001 debut. Xbox 360 was the second Xbox console and launched four years after the first model.
