What is the official name of Microsoft's cloud gaming service for Xbox games?

The story behind the answer

Microsoft's cloud gaming service for Xbox games is officially called Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The service lets subscribers stream selected games from Microsoft's remote servers to supported devices rather than downloading and running the games locally. It is part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and supports play on devices such as Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, smartphones, tablets, and compatible web browsers.

Microsoft introduced the service in beta as Project xCloud in 2019. It became publicly available in September 2020, initially through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in selected markets. The commercial name Xbox Cloud Gaming was adopted as the service expanded.

Project xCloud remains a common name in older coverage, but it was the development and beta name rather than the current official branding. Cloud gaming also differs from Xbox Remote Play, which streams a game from a user's own console.
