Xbox One X was released in 2017 as Microsoft's most powerful console at that time.
Microsoft announced the system under the development name Project Scorpio before revealing its retail name, Xbox One X. It launched worldwide on November 7, 2017, as a premium member of the Xbox One family rather than as a completely separate generation.
The console used substantially more powerful graphics hardware than the original Xbox One and Xbox One S. Microsoft marketed it for enhanced and native 4K gaming, while compatible older games could receive visual improvements through Xbox One X enhancements.
Xbox One X is sometimes confused with Xbox One S, which launched earlier in 2016 and introduced a slimmer design. It is also distinct from Xbox Series X, the next-generation console released in 2020. The “X” names describe different generations and should not be treated as interchangeable.
