What was the name of Xbox 360's external HD DVD drive?

The story behind the answer

Xbox 360's external HD DVD drive was called the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player.

Microsoft released the USB accessory in 2006 so Xbox 360 owners could watch films on HD DVD, a high-definition optical format competing with Blu-ray Disc. The drive connected externally rather than being built into the console, and it included a remote control and software support.

HD DVD lost the format war after major studios and retailers shifted toward Blu-ray. Toshiba announced the end of HD DVD promotion in February 2008, and Microsoft discontinued the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player soon afterward. The accessory played HD DVD movies but did not turn the Xbox 360 into a Blu-ray player; Blu-ray support never became a standard feature of that console.
