Which Xbox game series stars the alien-hunting hero Joanna Dark?

The Xbox game series starring alien-hunting hero Joanna Dark is Perfect Dark.

Joanna Dark first appeared in the Nintendo 64 game Perfect Dark, released in 2000 and developed by Rare. The science-fiction first-person shooter presented her as an agent of the Carrington Institute, a covert organization investigating extraterrestrial threats and corporate conspiracies.

Microsoft acquired Rare in 2002, bringing the series into the company’s wider game portfolio. The Xbox 360 received Perfect Dark Zero in 2005, a prequel that explored Joanna’s earlier career. The game included both a single-player campaign and online multiplayer modes.

Perfect Dark is sometimes confused with GoldenEye 007 because both series were associated with Rare and use first-person shooting mechanics. However, Joanna Dark is the signature character of Perfect Dark, while GoldenEye 007 is based on the James Bond film. A new Perfect Dark project was announced by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics in 2020.
