Forza is the Xbox franchise that features the fictional racing series Forza Motorsport.
Microsoft launched the Forza franchise in 2005 with Forza Motorsport for the original Xbox. Turn 10 Studios developed the simulation-focused racing series, which emphasized licensed cars, realistic circuits, tuning, and competitive driving. The franchise became one of Xbox’s principal racing properties.
Forza later expanded through the open-world Forza Horizon series, developed by Playground Games. Forza Horizon uses a festival setting and broad open-world exploration, while Forza Motorsport concentrates more directly on circuit racing and vehicle simulation. Both series share the Forza name but have different structures and design priorities.
The franchise name is sometimes incorrectly treated as referring only to Forza Motorsport. “Forza” is the umbrella title, and “Motorsport” identifies one branch of it. The Italian word forza means “strength” or “force,” which fits the branding of a performance-oriented racing series.
