The Xbox 360 was the first Xbox console to offer HDMI video output.
The original Xbox used analog video connections, including composite, S-Video, component video, and, in some regions, SCART. Early Xbox 360 models also relied on component and VGA cables, but Microsoft added HDMI to later hardware revisions.
The Xbox 360 Elite, released in 2007, included an HDMI port, and the redesigned Xbox 360 S later made HDMI standard across the system. HDMI could carry high-definition digital video and digital audio through one cable, making it especially useful with newer HDTVs.
A common mix-up is to assume the original Xbox had HDMI because some later adapters converted its analog signal. Those adapters were third-party accessories and did not mean the console itself natively provided HDMI output. The Xbox One followed with HDMI input and output, while the Xbox Series consoles continued the digital connection.
